Treatment: Aqualyx

In today’s health conscious world, we strive to look and feel our best but many of us suffer from those stubborn areas of localized fat that seem to be resistant to diet and exercise.

Aqualyx™ is the first injectable with specific application in the non- surgical treatment of localized fat.

Aqualyx is a specialised solution of water, plant polymers and an active substance deoxycholate. Deoxycholate is found naturally in the human body where it emulsifies (liquefies) fat absorbed from the intestine, to aid digestion of ingested fat. In 2007 Professor Motolese utilized the fat-dissolving effect of this bile acid and developed a synthetically manufactured variant, Aqualyx.

When injected into fatty tissue Aqualyx causes destruction of the fat cells which are then transported to the liver and excreted from the body via the kidneys.

Aqualyx™ can be used to shape, contour and treat stubborn areas of face including:

5. Outer Thighs (Saddle Bags)
6. Under The Buttocks (Banana Folds)
7. Inner Thighs
8. Knees
9. Chin, Jowels

During your consultation with the Doctor a full medical history will be taken to assess your suitability, and the benefits and potential side effects will be discussed in full. The treatment can take as little as 30 minutes depending on the size and number of areas being treated. The Aqualyx solution is injected into the fat through a special ultra fine needle. Usually 2 injection points are required for each area treated. Local anaesthetic is added to the solution before injection for patient comfort.

Immediately after the treatment you can resume your normal activities however the treated area will be red, warm and there may be some tenderness. Over the next few hours swelling will occur –this is a desired response to the treatment. Compression garments can help with the swelling, which can take a few days to a few weeks to fully resolve. You may also experience some numbness in the treated area. Numbness always resolves spontaneously but can last a few weeks. As with any injectable treatment, bruising may also occur.

Aqualyx is a very effective treatment however it will take time for liquefied fat to be metabolized and excreted. Noticeable changes are normally seen after the first or second treatments. As the fat cells are destroyed by the treatment the results are permanent, however it is important that you drink plenty of water and maintain a healthy diet during the treatment process to ensure effective elimination of the fatty acids.

The number of treatments required will vary according to volume of localized fat, the desired degree of correction and the individual’s reaction of the fat tissue. On average 3-4 treatments are carried out at 6 week intervals. Smaller areas of localised fat e.g. chin/jowls may only require 1-2 treatments.

• There is no obligation to book a treatment with us after your consultation as the consultation is entirely complimentary.
• If however, you do wish to book a treatment this can be done for you after your consultation or at a later date via phone or e-mail.

We appreciate that many of our patients have very busy schedules or travel a significant distance to attend our clinics. It is therefore sometimes possible for certain procedures e.g. Botox and Filler treatments to be carried out immediately after your consultation. If this is something you may be interested in please discuss this with our staff when booking your initial consultation so we can adjust your appointment time accordingly.

• Prior to your treatment you will be provided with a detailed consent form which you will be asked to read and sign.
• You will also have the opportunity to ask the Doctor any other questions you have regarding the treatment.
• After the treatment, post care products e.g. camouflage make up, may be applied if appropriate, depending on the treatment you have had.

• Do not apply cosmetics to the treated area up to 12 hours after the treatment
• Avoid all sources of heat and radiation (sunlight, saunas etc)
• Abstain from demanding physical exercise for 7 days
• Should you have any concerns just ask the Doctor

• On average you will need between 3-5 treatments at 3-4 weekly intervals, all of which will be advised during your consultation
