Treatment: Dermamelan

Dermamelan Depigmentation treatment was developed by a plastic surgeon, Dr Krulig, who specialises in the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders.

Dermamelan is a depigmentation agent used to treat the following skin conditions:

• Melasma - patchy or generalised dark pigmentation of the skin
• Chloasma - patchy brown or dark brown skin discoloration that usually occurs on a woman's face and may result from hormonal changes e.g. pregnancy and the contraceptive pill.
• Lentigo - small, sharply circumscribed, pigmented spot
• Post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation

In addition to Dermamelan being extremely effective at treating hyperpigmentation disorders, Dermamelan also has a number of other benefits:

• It rejuvenates the skin and improves the signs of photo-ageing and photo-damage
• It regulates sebaceous secretion reducing pore size and preventing spots.
• It can be used at any time of the year with only a light peeling effect
• It can be used safely on all skin types
• It does not contain Hydroquinone

Dermamelan influences the pigment producing (melanogenesis) process. Dermamelan’s unique combination of ingredients block the production of melanin (pigment) by inhibiting tryosinase – an essential enzyme involved in the formation of pigment.

During your consultation a diagnosis of your pigmentation problem will be made. A full medical history will then be taken to assess your suitability, and the benefits and potential side effects will be discussed in full.

Dermamelan Treatment consists of 2 stages. It is extremely important that both stages re followed to achieve complete success.

Stage 1 (Intensive treatment carried out in the clinic)

Stage 1 is carried out in the clinic in which the Dermamelan product is applied to your skin. The mask will be adjusted according to the individuals skin condition and skin type.

Stage 2 (Maintenance treatment carried out at home)

Stage 2 is the maintenance product used at home following the professional treatment.

Dermamelan is a very safe procedure for all skin types however some side effects should be anticipated.

• Skin Tightness - for a day or two after the Dermamelan cream mask is removed
• Skin Redness - after the mask is removed and during the initial period of using Dermamelan maintenance cream at home. The degree of redness will depend on your natural skin colouring and sensitivity to the treatment.
• Skin Flaking/Peeling - during the first week after the Dermamelan mask treatment. The degree of skin exfoliation is highly variable between patients depending on their skin type, skin condition and quality of their skin.

Depending on the severity of your pigmentation you will begin to see an improvement after a couple of weeks, which will continue to improve over the next month as you continue to use the Dermamelan maintenance cream. Most people are extremely pleased with the results at this stage however if the hyperpigmentation is severe a second application of the mask clinic may be required. For most patients only one treatment is normally required.

• Your initial visit will begins with a no obligation consultation, which typically last for around 30 minutes.
• Your consultation will be carried out by our highly experienced Aesthetic Doctor, who has been practising Aesthetic Medicine exclusively for over 15 years.
• Your consultation will begin by listening to and understanding your concerns and requirements and discussing how best we can meet and exceed your expectations.
• The various treatment options, together with the benefits and any potential risks of the treatment will be discussed.
• You will have ample opportunity to ask questions during your consultation, which will be answered honestly and openly.
• There is no obligation to book the treatment with us after your consultation and you will not be rushed into making a decision.

• Dermamelan Mask will be applied and left on your skin for 8-12 hours. We therefore recommend that you book a morning appointment as you can sleep with the mask on your face.
• Whilst the mask is on there should be no discomfort or irritation to the skin.
• The cream mask applied in the clinic is a yellow/brown colour. You will leave the clinic with this cream on so a suitable mode of transport home should be organised in advance, public transport is not advisable
• Please arrive for your treatment with a clean face with no additional products applied to your skin.
• Before your treatment you will be provided with a detailed consent form which you will be asked to read and sign.

• After a specified time you will be told to remove the cream mask and follow the written after-care instructions provided.
• Your aftercare instructions will advise you on how to use the ‘home-care’ products (quantity and frequency) and how long to prevent the pigmentation from recurring.
• The daily use of a moisturising sunscreen is essential.
