As ever, our experts are on hand to answer your questions. This month we're looking at safety and getting what you paid for.
I read a story in the newspaper about a beauty blogger who had her lips ruined through fillers. How can I avoid something like that happening to me?
We saw that news article too, and we feel awful for the poor woman who is now undergoing treatment to reverse the damage caused. There are a few things you should keep in mind when considering treatments like fillers or other injectables, to protect yourself.
Firstly, we would always recommend that you visit a doctor-led clinic, like Aesthetic MediSpa, rather than a beautician who may not have the same level of skills, training and experience. Although there are undoubtedly some great practitioners out there, the way we see it, it's just not worth the risk.
When you visit a clinic, you should have a proper consultation, and you should have time to discuss the outcome you're looking for. If you feel that you're being rushed, or not listened to, walk away. There's no shame in saying you need to think about things and come back later - if someone tries to pressure you to undergo any kind of aesthetic treatment, they're not someone you want to trust with your health or your appearance.
When you're looking for somewhere to have cosmetic or aesthetic treatment, you want to know that you're going to someone who is trained, skilled, experienced and insured. Without those things, you won't have the reassurance that they'll do a good job, or that you'll have recourse if they don't.
The best thing is to do your research- check out their accreditations (and if their website doesn't mention accreditations, ask yourself why that might be).
