As we age, we focus more and more on our appearance and how to combat things like loss of volume, wrinkles, pigmentation and more. But with so many beauty treatments available, how can you tell which is right for you, your skin, and your personal needs? Today, our team of skin experts in Essex are comparing two popular treatments: dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Find out how each works, where they can be used and what they help to treat in today’s blog post.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are a treatment that smooths away deep lines and wrinkles caused by loss of volume in the skin, as well as general areas of skin laxity. While the treatment is mainly used on the face, it’s also possible to have dermal fillers on the hands, and to address facial contouring - for example, administering a non-surgical nose job.
What are anti-wrinkle injections?
As the name suggests, these only apply to wrinkles, and tend to be for those that are finer and caused by sun-damage. However, the treatment can also be used to refine areas like the neck and chin, as the active ingredients reduce movement in the treated area - for example, softening a ‘bulky’ jaw.
What are the treatments made of?
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid as their main ingredient. This helps to add moisture to the skin and plump and contour as it fills. Anti-wrinkle injections use botulinum toxin A, a substance (botox) which lessens muscle movement to soften wrinkles and refine bulky areas.
Where can the treatments be used?
For anti-wrinkle injections, the upper half of the face is typically treated (forehead, brows and eyes), but it can also be used to slim the neck and jawline. Dermal fillers are more apt for the lower-half of the face - think mouth, chin and cheekbones. It can also be used on the hands, and for a non-surgical nose job.
How do costs compare?
As skin experts, we believe cost should never be the main factor in deciding on a treatment. Instead, feel confident that you’re investing in a long-lasting treatment with proven results. You wouldn’t choose a hairdresser based on price, but more on skills, experience and results - so the same should apply for any aspect of your appearance.
