Handling Your Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis – otherwise known as excessive sweating – can be embarrassing to live with and harder still to hide. In this special post, our skin doctors talk through some ways to help get a handle on hyperhidrosis, so you can get back to focusing on the things that matter.

And, if you know you have the condition, please do get in touch with the team here at our skin clinic in Essex– we can help.

But first, what is hyperhidrosis?

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a condition where, effectively, you constantly sweat more than you should. It can affect lots of areas of the body, including the forehead, hands and feet, groin, and armpits. Many sufferers describe experiences where the condition has negatively impacted on, or interfered with, their lives. It could be something as simple as frequently needing to change clothes, or could be so detrimental that they fear leaving the house or shaking someone’s hand. It’s surprising how something seemingly so small, can have such a large impact.

How do I know if I have it?

Our skin doctors often say that with hyperhidrosis, ‘when you know, you know’. It’s likely that if you have the condition, it will already have affected your life. However, if you suspect the condition but are unsure whether you have it, we can invite you to a consultation to assess your skin. If we find you have hyperhidrosis, we’ll be able to help with special, targeted treatment (read on for more on this).

How can I handle hyperhidrosis?

Thankfully, there’s lots you can try to help manage the condition. The first step is to assess your skincare – so goodbye soap-based products, hello antiperspirant! You can also make changes to your diet (especially if you eat a lot of spicy foods or have a lot of caffeine in your diet), and could try to wear looser clothing, made from natural fabrics, to keep your body feeling cool and prevent those pesky sweat patches from forming.

Can you treat hyperhidrosis?
Thankfully, with Aesthetic Medispa you can – although, sadly, there is no permanent solution. However, with botox injections, you can effectively ‘block’ the sweat glands from over-producing sweat for several months at a time, and so can help alleviate the condition.
