How does the PDO threadlift work?

It’s the treatment favoured by celebrities and it involves a thread being inserted into the lower face to firm the jawline. Let’s have a look at why there’s so much hype surrounding the humble PDO threadlift.

Gravity is both our friend and our foe. It’s great that it keeps us on the planet, along with everyone we love, and everything we need for a long and fulfilling life, but at the same time it plays havoc with our skin, especially the longer we’re exposed to it!

It’s because of gravity that our skin travels south. That, and our reduced collagen production. When we’re in our early twenties and our collagen production is at its peak, we enjoy firm, toned, elastic skin that stretches appropriately when we express ourselves, before snapping seamlessly back into place, once our faces return to neutral.

As we begin to make less collagen; a process that happens as early as in our late twenties, the skin begins to lose some of its elasticity. The result of this is that when you return to the neutral expression of your resting face, lines remain, a faint indicator of what your skin does when you frown or laugh.

Then, as you get older, the lines get deeper, and worse still, the skin appears to travel down your face, gathering around the jawline. This is where excess sagging skin ends up. A PDO threadlift can help restore your jawline to its former firmness, turning the clock back on your looks and giving you a thoroughly refreshed appearance.

About the treatment

PDO threadlift treatment involves a thread being inserted near the chin. It stretches from one side of the jaw to the other and is pulled tight to create a lifting effect. The thread itself is made of the same polymer associated with sutures and is perfectly safe to be inserted and remain in your skin. Sticky cones on the thread attach themselves to your skin on the inside, effectively and firmly connecting skin tissue and thread, enabling your practitioner to lift the skin as the thread tightens.

Immediate and long term results

You’ll notice the immediate results of this treatment instantly. The skin of the lower face will be lifted. If you had jowls, they will become less prominent. Your firmer jawline should give your whole face a more youthful look. There may be minor side effects such as mild bruising, or a little redness, but this will soon go.

In the weeks following your treatment, you’ll continue to notice improvements in your rejuvenation, each time you look in the mirror. That’s because having a threadlift increases your collagen production, creating more of the magic ingredient that creates fresh new skin tissue. Your jawline will continue to firm up.

Why it’s preferable to surgery

A PDO threadlift take hours to administer and a couple of days to get over. Unlike a surgical facelift, which achieves the same results, there won’t be weeks of recovery at home. You can get back to work almost straight away. There won’t be any scarring, or prolonged pain and discomfort. You can return to your normal daily routine, looking significantly more youthful.
