We're in the middle of the Autumn/Winter season, and with the clocks having gone back and the heating on, it's a good time to look at the latest trends and see what's what.
Dark Lips
The catwalks and runways were full of deep, dark pouts for this season. It's a fabulous look for winter, perfect for bringing a flash of drama to an otherwise grey day.
Some fashion houses went straight for black, for a proper goth look, but there were plenty of dark plums and "rouge-noir" to make this a slightly more accessible look for the rest of us.
If you want to make the most of your smile with the latest dark lipsticks (and mattes, which are also very in right now), you want to be sure that your lips won't let you down. There's nothing worse than lipstick creeping into those fine lines around the mouth, especially when you're choosing a dark colour.
If you have those lines, or your lips feel too thin to carry off a dramatic look, have a look at our range of lip treatments and give yourself the chance to really showcase this season's pout.
Dramatic Liner
If you prefer your dark makeup near your eyes rather than your lips, this season's graphic and dramatic eyeliner trends should be right up your street. The Topshop catwalk was all about dark and sultry eyes, mirrored by the looks on show at Kenzo and Oscar de la Renta (so there's something for every age group in this look).
From fully lined to dramatic, graphic shapes, eyeliner was all the rage. Silver and neon liners were also spotted at a few shows, so dare to be daring this season with whatever takes your fancy. Just make it stand out.
With liquid eyeliner ruling the runway, making sure your eyes are looking their best is important - there's no sense in drawing attention to a feature you're not happy with. Avoid crow's feet smudging your liner, or hooded brows obscuring all of the work you put into that smoky eye, with targeted eye treatments to perk up your peepers.
Illumination and Glow
In the summer, the trends tend to focus on matte looks - no one wants to look shiny in the sunshine, it seems a little too much like sweat. In the winter, on the other hand, it's all about the glow. Highlighters, shimmer, illuminating powders... They were all over the designer catwalks for this season.
To get a great glow, you need a good base, of course. So your skin needs to be in tip-top shape, so you can highlight it without worrying about emphasising anything you're less than thrilled with. Getting the condition of your skin right is step one - treatments like Dermaroller, Skin Peels, and Mesotherapy can help with that. Keeping your skin in great condition, using a product like our favourite ZO Skincare, will help keep it that way, even in the harsh winter months. And, if you want to turn the clock back so your dewy look really screams "fresh faced", an anti-ageing treatment might give you exactly what you're looking for.
Make it Work
No matter what's happening in fashion trends, the only way for it to work for you is if it's what you want. If you hate shimmer, you'll never feel entirely comfortable with it, but sometimes a bit of shimmer in your eye makeup rather than all over your face, can be just the hint you need. If lipstick is the bane of your life, choose to go with a dramatic eye look instead, and boost your pout another way.
Make it work for you - follow the parts of the trends that you enjoy, and ignore the rest. Feeling beautiful in your own skin is about more than your makeup, so as much fun as it can be to let fashion inspire you to change things up, ultimately you should stick with what makes you feel good.
