The Hyperhidrosis Treatment Process

The Hyperhidrosis Treatment Process

author: last updated:

Hyperhidrosis is another name for excessive sweating, a debilitating condition that can affect many different areas of a person’s life. Though we’re highly experienced in aesthetic treatments, we also offer select medical treatments, and hyperhidrosis treatment is just one of them. Here in our Rickmansworth clinic, we’ve helped people from all backgrounds feel happier and more confident in their skin. In this post, we’ll talk a bit more about hyperhidrosis and how we can help treat it in Rickmansworth.

So, what’s the condition all about?

As we’ve mentioned, it’s all about excessive sweating also known as hyperhidrosis. This is uncontrollable sweating that occurs despite the temperature, activity levels, emotional state or other typical factors associated with sweating. In other words, it can happen at any time – or even all the time.

What causes hyperhidrosis?

Sometimes, genetics plays a role, and there’s a type of hyperhidrosis that can be brought on with specific medical conditions or treatments. However, for a large number of sufferers, the cause isn’t known – though influencing factors, like diet, are thought to play a part.

How do I know I have hyperhidrosis?

The problem can occur in many areas of the body but often affects the palms, soles, armpits, forehead and groin. Because it isn’t caused by things like temperature, for example, you may have uncontrollable sweating in colder weather. Of course, a proper diagnosis is important and we’d never advise treatment without having this in place first.

How do I treat hyperhidrosis?

At home, you could try making changes to your diet; how often you wash; what you wear; and other things as a way of self-management. However, these are unlikely to be enough to stop the problem (and any embarrassment along the way). That’s why you may be recommended for hyperhidrosis treatment. This involves using an injectable after numbing the areas responsible for sweating, to help minimise or stop the problem altogether. However, though long-lasting, repeat treatments are needed to keep excessive sweating under control.

Does hyperhidrosis ever cure itself?

It’s possible and does happen in some cases, but in others, it gradually worsens, and everyday tasks like typing on a computer or driving a car can be almost impossible. That’s why diagnosis and treatment are so important.

What’s my next step?

We’d recommend booking a consultation at our Rickmansworth & Essex clinics. We can talk you through hyperhidrosis in more detail and give you a chance to get to know us and our process. From there, we can then book the treatment itself. We don’t think anyone should have to live with this debilitating condition and will do all we can to help – so just get in touch.
