An estimated 5% of the world’s population surprisingly suffers from hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive sweating primarily in localised areas. It can be extremely embarrassing and lifestyle-limiting, as lots of people don’t just experience sweat during heat or exercise, but instead on a daily basis. There is a treatment available, though, to limit the amount of sweat produced in localised areas to help bring your excessive sweating under control.
Excessive sweating – what is it?
Hyperhidrosis can occur biologically, or under a trigger. There are plenty of people who experience it daily within any outside stimulus. It may be a mild or cold day, and they will still produce excessive amounts of sweat either in localised areas or perhaps even all over their body. However, sometimes hyperhidrosis can occur in periods of stress, heat, or exercise. Your sweat glands produce sweat naturally under these conditions but those with circumstantial hyperhidrosis experience excessive amounts in these windows.
Excessive sweating and your health
There isn’t technically anything wrong if you suffer from hyperhidrosis, it is simply an unfortunate condition that sadly hasn’t received a form of cure. It doesn’t impede on your physical health and performance, but it can be damaging to the mental health and self-confidence of the mind. This being said though, excessive sweating may be a symptom of an underlying health problem if you haven’t experienced it before, so if you experience it in conjunction with the following you should seek medical attention.
- Excessive sweating and weight loss
- Excessive sweating with fever, chest pain, shortness of breath, and raised heartbeat
- Hyperhidrosis and a feeling of pressure or pain in the chest
- Excessive sweating occurring during your sleep
Treating excessive sweating
If you’ve tried strong deodorants and they simply don’t seem to work, there is a treatment you may find relief from. Here at Aesthetic Medispa we offer medical injections that can limit the production of excessive sweat, also known as hyperhidrosis, in the localised treatment area. The injections don’t spread outwards, so they can only treat the area they are introduced to, but you could feel fresher and drier for up to 6 months following treatment.
If you’re experiencing hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating and want to free yourself form the embarrassment, contact us at Aesthetic Medispa today. We offer two skin clinic located in both Essex and Rickmansworth, near London.
