What To Avoid After Getting Lip Fillers

If you’re looking to enhance and augment your lips – whether creating shape and definition, balancing out asymmetry or adding volume – lip fillers are a fantastic treatment option. The procedure is straightforward, downtime is minimal, and aftercare is easy to follow. In this blog, our expert skin doctors here at our Essex skin clinic focus on the lip filler post-treatment process, so you know what to avoid in those early days.

#1: Heat

Whether it’s the sauna or the spa, heat treatments can worsen swelling. It’s recommended that you avoid these for at least 48 hours or so. If you do experience swelling, an ice pack may help reduce it. You can also ask our skin doctors about pain relief.

#2:Make-up

For 24 hours after your lip fillers, make-up is a no-go. That’s because it can irritate the skin, and you should avoid touching the injected areas in the hours immediately after treatment. However, our skin doctors can offer some light, mineral make-up that you could try if you don’t fancy going home bare-faced.

#3: Exercise

You won’t need to avoid it altogether – walking and running may still be OK – but anything more heart-pumping could boost blood pressure and worsen any bruising or swelling. The good news is that in most cases, you’ll only need to avoid it for around 48 hours. If you’re in any doubt about whether an exercise is too risky, just ask.

#4: Pressure

From touching your lips, to kissing, to resting on your front while sleeping, any unnecessary pressure on the treated area could cause the lip filler to move and result in a lumpy appearance. While some unevenness is to be expected at first, it’s best to wait at least 24 hours before doing these things, as it could worsen the problem.

One more thing…

When having lip filler treatment, it’s good to know that most of our clients go back to work straight after their appointment (sometimes even having the filler on their lunchbreak). That’s why it’s often considered a minimal-to-no downtime procedure.

Ask the experts
