What to do after your dermal filler treatment

At Aesthetic Medispa we offer a wide range of different uses for dermal fillers, from non-surgical rhinoplasty to lip fillers. After your dermal filler treatment at Aesthetic Medispa, you will want to have the best, longest-lasting results possible. To have your amazing results for as long as possible we recommend you follow an aftercare plan. Immediately after your dermal filler treatment, you may experience slight redness, some swelling and tenderness. This is a normal temporary reaction that your body has as a result of the injection.

Top Aftercare Tips

1 - We recommend that you do not wear makeup for 12 hours after your treatment. This is to avoid infection at the sites where the needle was inserted.

2 - We recommend sleeping on your back for the first few nights after your treatment to avoid any shifting of the product. This is very unlikely; however, it is best practice. It has also been shown that the results of dermal fillers last longer if you switch to sleeping on your back, depending on the location of your filler.

3 – Avoid extended exposure to the sun, UV rays, temperatures below zero degrees Celsius or extreme heat like a sauna for a few days after your treatment. This is to avoid your skin becoming irritated after the treatment as it will be sensitive.

4 – Avoid extraneous exercise, alcohol and the use of retinol or vitamin C serums for 24 hours after your treatment.

Side effects are very minimal with this treatment but if you experience any pain, swelling or bruising this is what you should do:

Pain relief

Pain is usually mild after dermal filler treatments. Some areas are more painful than others: the lip and chin area. Pain relief such as paracetamol may be taken as directed by your aesthetic surgeon.

Swelling relief

If you are experiencing swelling apply a cool compress for 10 minutes every hour of the day of treatment (do not put any ice or frozen substance directly on the skin). The use of a cool compress applied regularly for the first 24 hours after injections may help to reduce swelling.

Some patients choose to use arnica tablets before and after to reduce swelling. If you’re considering dermal fillers in Essex or Rickmansworth, please don't hesitate to contact the expert team at Aesthetic Medispa. We will be happy to book you in for a consultation at a time to suit you.
